The Cause And Effect Of Impulse Control Disorders
Paige Logsdon Mr. Martinous Composition II April 8, 2015 The Cause and Effect of Impulse Control Disorders Most people love watching other humans and like trying to figure out why they do what they do. Itââ¬â¢s called people watching and we have all been guilty of it. The human race is fascinating and it is very interesting how we were created and what makes us tick. Have you ever wondered why some people have an uncontrollable urge toward destructible behaviors? Do you ever wonder if the behavior can be controlled? Some people like to act a certain way for attention, but there are others who act a certain way because they suffer from impulse control disorders. Miller-Keane Encyclopedia and Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing, and Alliedâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These severe outbursts may be displayed as a tantrum, fit, or argument and can be frequent and out of control. If this aggressive behavior is not dealt with it can lead to serious acts of assault or property damage. There is a difference between someone who can control t hese outbursts and someone who canââ¬â¢t. The National Institute of Mental Health on its website reports from a study conducted in 2001-2003 that depending on how broadly it is defined, IED affects as many as ââ¬Å"7.3% of adults ââ¬â 11.5-16 million Americansâ⬠ââ¬â in their lifetime (Intermittent Explosive Disorder Affects up to 16 Million, 2012). To be diagnosed with the IED a patient must have had three outbursts of impulsive aggressive behavior at any time during their life time. An outburst would happen suddenly, for no reason and include an aggressive behavior which may either harm another person or another personââ¬â¢s property. In most cases, people with IED usually feel relief or pleasure after having an episode. An individual who suffers from IED feels compelled to act on their impulses not caring about the consequences of their actions. When a person is able to decide whether or not to act on an impulse, he makes a choice. With patients who suf fer from IED, there is no choice. Some health professionals believe IED is a symptom of another mental disorder rather than a separate one. According to an article entitled

Football Madness Free Essays
Our team were in the away changing room and my ears were hurting as the managerââ¬â¢s voice went straight through me whilst he shouted at us for the dreadful performance we just gave. Then he threw a bottle towards Marcel the goalkeeper who safely caught it. â⬠Oh now you stop it fool!â⬠he shouted sarcastically at him. We will write a custom essay sample on Football Madness or any similar topic only for you Order Now The room was stuffy because of all the sweat and heat coming off the players. We just got beat two nil by the Newcastle United under twenty ones and our main striker Carlton Wallace the team captain was under pressure. His last season performance was superb, he got top scorer with twenty-one goals and most of them goals were from his heading ability as he was very tall so he had a lot depending on him this season by Leeds United Football Club, because he is on the brink of entering the senior squad. So far during the season he hasnââ¬â¢t scored for the first five games and the team are worried about him. The next day he turned up late for training and the Manager Tony Forbes went over to Carlton as he stepped out of his brand new Mercedes Benz SLK and he started shouting and being intolerant at him, Carlton then got straight back in the car and drove off in a rush. As Tony came back the players just pretended that it never happened and carried on with training, except one, that was Andrew Moyes who was the joker amongst the group and he thought he knew what had happened. He asked Tony in a bigheaded way ââ¬Å"what was that all about then gaffer?â⬠Tony replied, ââ¬Å"Just forget it its nothing to do with you.â⬠And Andrew put his hands up towards his chin as if he were holding a handbag and went ââ¬Å"ooooooâ⬠. But Tony reacted badly and shouted at him ââ¬Å"youââ¬â¢re dropped from the team on Saturday for that remark, you sicken me!â⬠then some players started to smirk, but lucky for them Tony didnââ¬â¢t notice. As we were going in Andrew stated, ââ¬Å"I think Carltonââ¬â¢s got problems.â⬠So I replied, â⬠what makes you think that?â⬠I asked and Andrew replied, â⬠his behaviour just lately is weird, donââ¬â¢t you think?â⬠â⬠He has been a bit strange but nothing too serious I hope.â⬠I stated. But we thought nothing of it and carried on getting towards the changing rooms with the rest of the team. We were entering the changing rooms as the assistant was writing Saturdayââ¬â¢s team out for the match against Middlesbrough, so everyone was gathered around the board to see their name on it and Carlton was dropped for Alan Smith and everyone was amazed because last season they beat Middlesborough four nil and Carlton got three goals, so I went to see the gaffer but he had left early. As I was getting changed Jamie our key defender asked me, ââ¬Å"Do you want to come for a drink with us?â⬠I replied ââ¬Å"No Iââ¬â¢ve got to shoot off sorry.â⬠So I went to the secretary and asked her where Tony had gone and she said heââ¬â¢d gone to Carltonââ¬â¢s to sort something out, immediately I rushed out to the car park and dodged all the journalists who were bombarding me with questions about Carltonââ¬â¢s future, so I could get into my car and go. Luckily no police seen me speeding on my way to Carltonââ¬â¢s but as I slowly approached his house I saw Tony getting out of his car on the driveway, he stepped up to the door, knocked on it and looked around to see if anyone was watching. Carlton opened the door and poked his head around to see who it was, then he looked around outside for people, but luckily he didnââ¬â¢t see me. Then he invited Tony in to his house. Seeing this I got out the car and went round the side of his house making sure I wasnââ¬â¢t seen and the window was open so I tried and listen in on the conversation. I heard Carlton talking about when he went to the doctors and got told that if he continues to head a football it will affect his brain because of all the pressure be exerted on to the skull, but last year nearly every goal was a header so that might explain why he hasnââ¬â¢t been on form this season. After hearing that I ran back to the car and drove straight to The Bottle of Sack, our local pub where the lads were and darted inside to break the news. As soon as I entered they kept offering drinks and asking things so I couldnââ¬â¢t a word in. But then I seen Jamie going to the toilet so I followed him in and Explained to him the situation and he went straight back out and gathered the team round. After he told them they and started to think of what to do and Andrew said ââ¬Å"letââ¬â¢s help him through it.â⬠ââ¬Å"You donââ¬â¢t say, â⬠Marcel replied sarcastically ââ¬Å"But how?â⬠asked Jamie and Andrew bellowed ââ¬Å"letââ¬â¢s sign a new player to replace him.â⬠And everyone gave him a dirty look, then Martin his striking partner said, â⬠well instead of him heading the ball he could bicycle kick then his goals would be spectacular.â⬠So Jamie replied, â⬠itââ¬â¢s stupid but it might just work.â⬠ââ¬Å"But thatââ¬â¢s a difficult skill to perform day in day out.â⬠I added, so Marcel our goalkeeper announced above all the noise of the players in his French accent ââ¬Å"lets train him to do it then, its what teamworkââ¬â¢s all about isnââ¬â¢t it?â⬠so everybody started planning out what to do in Thursdayââ¬â¢s training session. It was Thursday and we all waited in the changing room for Tony to enter to tell him Martinââ¬â¢s idea. So as he entered Jamie called him over and asked, ââ¬Å"can I have a word outside gaffer?â⬠ââ¬Å"Noâ⬠he replied ââ¬Å"but itââ¬â¢s important gafferâ⬠Jamie added, they both went out. A minute later we heard Tony shout out ââ¬Å"brilliant.â⬠Then he burst back in and said ââ¬Å"Lads Jamie here has just come up with a solution to Carltonââ¬â¢s problem.â⬠And Jamie butted in and said, ââ¬Å"Well actually it was Martinââ¬â¢s idea gaffer.â⬠ââ¬Å"Who cares?â⬠he exclaimed, so he carried on telling us ââ¬Å"we shall make him do over head or bicycle kicks instead of heading the ball. But you will have to put in effort to help him, agreed?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes gaffer.â⬠We all replied simultaneously. He then queried, ââ¬Å"How did you know about this problem?â⬠Then suddenly Carlton the changing room so everyone greeted him a nd luckily for me Tony never found out how we knew. After he got changed Tony told us to go on to field and he would meet us down there except Carlton, because he wanted to talk to Carlton about Martinââ¬â¢s idea. I was last out of the changing room and I decided to stay outside the door and listen in on the conversation. At first Tony said ââ¬Å"well Carlton you know about yesterdays talk at yours?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes.â⬠He replied, ââ¬Å"well I was thinking about your problem and why donââ¬â¢t you bicycle kick the ball instead?â⬠asked Tony and Carlton replied â⬠well itââ¬â¢s a bit hard to do that gaffer, because Iââ¬â¢m not that good at it you see. Also itââ¬â¢s quite difficult to perform unless every cross is perfectâ⬠ââ¬Å"But weââ¬â¢ll do training on it every session starting today, the lads will help and have to do it as well.â⬠Said Tony, so Carlton agreed ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠. I quickly dashed on to field so they did not see me as they came out. As I got near Andrew said ââ¬Å"were have you been?â⬠but I was out of breath because I had to run so Tony didnââ¬â¢t know I was listening. When Tony arrived with Carlton Tony shouted out ââ¬Å"come on do the warm up procedure.â⬠So all the players did stretching and jogging on the spot and the usual things, but Carlton and the Tony were talking about something and then Tony called the Marcel over and me. He explained to us ââ¬Å"well Marcel get in goal and Mark put some crosses in for Carlton so he can practice those overhead kicks. So I went over and crossed a ball in but Carlton could not reach so Tony shouted ââ¬Å"a bit lower.â⬠So I tried again and he just missed it. We tried again and again but he couldnââ¬â¢t do it. Tony shouted over to me â⬠a few moreâ⬠so I crossed it in and he connected to it perfectly and Tony shouted ââ¬Å"superb lads!â⬠keep it up we did it another two times and he just kept on doing it. The Tony told us to stop and told us â⬠donââ¬â¢t get too carried away, save it for the weekendâ⬠On the way to the changing room I asked Tony ââ¬Å"why donââ¬â¢t you put Carlton into the first team instead of Alan?â⬠but he just said, ââ¬Å"I might, I donââ¬â¢t know yet.â⬠After I got changed I went to the car park and got in my car and drove off home so I could rest for tomorrowââ¬â¢s game against Middlesbrough. The next morning on the way to Ellend road, which was our home ground, I was all ready for the game today. I pulled into the ground and parked the car. I then got out with my kit bag and went through reception and into changing room and noticed Carlton sitting there all changed ready for the game, and I asked, ââ¬Å"Are you all right?â⬠and he replied, ââ¬Å"yes Iââ¬â¢m ecstatic.â⬠ââ¬Å"Why?â⬠I asked he said ââ¬Å"the gaffer has put me in the squad for today because he was amazed by training yesterday with them over head kicks.â⬠ââ¬Å"Brilliant Carlton, well done.â⬠I greeted. ââ¬Å"But I couldnââ¬â¢t of done it with out you mate.â⬠He replied Then the gaffer came in and said, ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t want any scrappy football today lads last week was dreadful, so come on show me what youââ¬â¢ve got.â⬠As the bell went to go out all the players shouted ââ¬Å"come on!â⬠stood up clapped, the room was vibrating from the players passion. We then we made our way on to the pitch. It was midway through the first half and the crowd was roaring with excitement, I got the ball passed through to me down the right hand side; I skipped past one defender and crossed the ball in towards Carlton who was waiting in the area. He jumped up and to do a bicycle kick, the time slowed dramatically as if it were a movie. Then Carlton went to kick it, he missed the ball and there was a big gasp from the crowd of over thirty thousand fans. He landed on his back with a massive cry of pain and everyone froze. It didnââ¬â¢t look good. Every team gathered round even some Middlesbrough players to look at him then the physio dashed onto the pitch to see what the problem was he shouted ââ¬Å"move away give him roomâ⬠then he called for a stretcher. He was taken off on the stretcher and was immediately to on his way to hospital in an ambulance. Tony told Chris to get ready so he could replace Carlton. The crowd went silent and we heard the siren of the ambulance as it hurried off to hospital. There was no enthusiasm for the rest of the half and the match was boring now The half time whistle blew and everyone went back to changing room. Tony didnââ¬â¢t say anything; he was in shock after the incident with Carlton. The bell rang for us to go out again but this time there was no roar of passion from the players as they strolled out towards the field. The second half was boring because Carlton wasnââ¬â¢t playing and the players had no strategy anymore. The game just dragged on back and forth until eventually Tony used his last substitute, which was Alan, he came on for Jamie who had a quiet game. There was only two minutes left on the clock and our goalie had just made a fantastic save to keep us level, he kicked the ball out to Andrew who controlled it brilliantly and then slotted a through ball up to Alan who chased it with all the strength he had, their goalkeeper rushed towards the ball to try and smother it, it was one on one and Alan got there first and skipped around the goalie and passed it into the net. The crowd were roaring with delight as there was only one minute left, but you couldnââ¬â¢t hear anything because of the noise from the fans, it was deafening. Tony was running up and down the touchline jumping for joy. The team were cheering as well, running up the pitch to congratulate Alan. The ground felt like it would collapse from the noise and excitement. Then we heard the final whistle blow as the game concluded, and the fans were going wild due to Alanââ¬â¢s goal, but everyone forgot about Carlton, except me. So I quickly ran into the dressing room and got changed and dashed to the hospital to check how he was. When I got there I asked the receptionist ââ¬Å"were is Carlton Wallace please?â⬠She replied, ââ¬Å"Ward seven room two.â⬠I walked quickly towards it, eventually finding him lying in a bed in pain. The doctor was standing next to his bed and asked me ââ¬Å"excuse me are do know this person?â⬠I replied, ââ¬Å"Yes we play for the same football club, will he be able to play again?â⬠ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢s damaged ligaments in his lower back, so it doesnââ¬â¢t look very promisingâ⬠he replied. I just stood there and stared at Carlton with hope. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m afraid your going to have to leave now because visiting times are over, also we need to plan the operation for tomorrow.â⬠The doctor told me ââ¬Å"What operation!â⬠I exclaimed ââ¬Å"We need to operate on his lower back quickly or he may never play againâ⬠he replied Then I asked ââ¬Å"is it risky?â⬠ââ¬Å"Of course it is, every operation is risky,â⬠he told me. Youââ¬â¢d better go now he needs his rest for tomorrow. So I left with a bad feeling that this operation may go wrong, but how was I going to explain it to the lads, that will be even harder. I got to my car in the car park and whilst I was opening the door I told myself that I wasnââ¬â¢t going to the lads and let them find out for themselves, so I carried on home to spend the night and have a think. The next day I was tired because I hadnââ¬â¢t had much sleep because I was up all night thinking about Carltonââ¬â¢s back operation. I had to get over it and go and see him at hospital. When I arrived at hospital I went to ward seven to see him and his parents were there crying, the doctor was there again so I went up to him and asked how he was he explained ââ¬Å"the operation was successful we repaired the ligaments but he will have to give up football for a whileâ⬠ââ¬Å"Whys thatâ⬠I asked ââ¬Å"His back isnââ¬â¢t capable of all that running and exercise that footballers do day in day out.â⬠I ran out of the hospital got in my car and sped off home because I realised that he wonââ¬â¢t recover from this and will have to retire. I had a lot of different feelings inside me like anger, disappointment, confusion of why this happened. I then remembered it was Martins idea to make him do overhead kicks and I knew he lived across the road, so I went over and started banging on the door until he opened it. As I seen him open the door I burst in with rage and started beating him up shouting out ââ¬Å"this is for Carltonâ⬠ââ¬Å"its your fault heââ¬â¢s having to retireâ⬠. I realised I got a carried away as I stopped hitting him because heââ¬â¢d stopped breathing and was just lying there on the floor, I didnââ¬â¢t know what to do. I got up and ran over to my house then just crumbled down to the floor and started crying. How to cite Football Madness, Papers

Crucible Salem Episode Essay Example For Students
Crucible Salem Episode Essay The Crucible The Salem witch-trials, are an historic event that occurred duringthe Puritan era. It was the witch-trials that decided the fate of so many of theaccused. Arthur Miller, the author of The Crucible uses the Salem episode as aparallel to an event in the 1950s known as the Red Scare. Heassociates many incidents of the Red Scare with that of the Salemwitch-trials. Such incidents as: witch-hunts, hysteria, and cupidity which allentwines with both the Red Scare and The Crucible. One may ask,Whats a witch hunt? It could be described as the searchingout and deliberate harassment of those with unpopular views. In TheCrucible a group of girls start a witch-hunt as a cover up for their ownmisdoing. It results with the idea that naming names will pardon one fromexecution. The author tries to build up the reader and audiences feelings onshifting blame, and points out that even though the accused waspardoned, the community will always have suspicions of them. An outbreak ofpeculiar i nsanity called mass hysteria also infected Salem. The Crucibledemonstrates how fear can be spread through a community with such ease. Its afear that someone may possess them or accuse them of being a possessor. Thisfear caused the hysteria throughout Salem. Community grudges and cupidity alsotook a role in The Crucible. For instance Abigail is jealous of ElizabethProctor, so Abigail accuses her of witchcraft in order to get rid of her. Otherinstances occur when neighbors accuse each other of witchcraft over theopportunity to gain more land. This causes the community to slowly disintegrate. Arthur Miller tells the story through John Proctors point of view. This makesthe audience sympathetic to the incidences that happen to him throughout theplay. He is a victim of the witch-hunt, hysteria and cupidity that meandersthroughout Salem. The reader or audience may not know that Arthur Miller was avictim of the Red Scare but his underlying point is that witch-huntoccurrences, hysteria, and cupidity are very possible and are still possible tothis day and it can be very disintegrating to a community. He showed me a lot of things and he makes sure that Iââ¬â¢m always aware and updated in the latest happenings. And you know whatââ¬â¢s even better? He is always there when I need him. He doesnââ¬â¢t ask for so much attention and being with him gives me comfort and warmth. But, little did I know, that this best friend would soon betray me and cause me suffering. If before he was a good influence, now, he was a distraction, and I seemed to be so drawn into his world, that I even ignored things that are really essential. So one day, when I was inside the house with him, my mother asked me to buy something. I was reluctant because I didnââ¬â¢t want to leave him. Unfortunately, I accidentally knocked the tumbler over and the freshly boiled juice spilled onto my thigh. And all of this happened because I wasnââ¬â¢t giving my full attention to what I was doing; my attention was always on my bestfriend. I cried and I cried but he didnââ¬â¢t help me. My best friend had abandoned me. It really hurt when my thigh was burned. It was hard for me to move especially walk. It was really a traumatic and saddening experience for me. Iââ¬â¢ve realized that this friendship of ours was not healthy. Even my mother told me that spending time with him is bad, especially now that Iââ¬â¢m more drawn into him. So Iââ¬â¢ve made up my mind. I wonââ¬â¢t be spending most of my time with him; Iââ¬â¢ll try to lessen the time that weââ¬â¢re together. Iââ¬â¢ve learned to prioritize what is really important. No more late nights and snack times with him. Iââ¬â¢ll just bond with my family more; nothing would break us apart; not you, my ex-best friend, the television.

How skilful communication influence patientsââ¬â¢ health behaviours The WritePass Journal
How skilful communication influence patientsââ¬â¢ health behaviours Abstract How skilful communication influence patientsââ¬â¢ health behaviours , p. 45).à à The healthy belief model explains how healthy people seek to avoid illnesses by outlining the nature of peopleââ¬â¢s preventative healthcare. The model is designed to indicate how personal health behaviours are influenced by perceived threats and benefits. It emphasises on perceptions and beliefs that can be modified to result in changed health behaviour. In this model communication is perceived as an essential tool for influencing the behaviour of the patients. The health belief model for compliance is an expansion of the health belief model and it includes the beliefs of patients that are already suffering from illnesses and have to comply with treatment. It aims at predicting compliance of patients to treatment to assist healthcare professionals in designing interventions to suit the needs of individual patients (Hugman 2009, p. 33). The Kingââ¬â¢s interaction model explains the communication between a nurse and a patient. It incorporates transactional aspe cts of human communication and the need for feedback. The model regards the trust between the nurse and the patient as vital in the effectiveness of the communication process. The model for participative decision making for patient doctor interaction postulates that when clients donââ¬â¢t get enough information from doctors or when there are communication barriers then they are likely to reject the treatment or decrease compliance (Eisenberg 2012, p.24).à Therefore, the patients are supposed to be fully informed on their conditions and all the available options for treatment. The development model for health communication focuses on the communication occurring within the various relationships in healthcare settings. Its emphasis is on how different factors and contexts influence the interactions between different individuals in health communication. All the participants have their own perspectives based on their individual beliefs and values. These perspectives influence the c hoice of the participants to interact with the others and as such healthcare personnel must always have this in mind (Hugman 2009, p.71).à Importance of Skilful Communication as an Aspect of Care In an attempt to show the importance of communication in healthcare delivery, it is apparent that communication and healthcare delivery are indivisible. Delivery of healthcare to the patients encompasses more than just the administration of drugs. Healthcare delivery has moved from the task oriented practice it was in the past towards a therapeutic process that involves a wide range of roles focused on the health of the individual patients, their health and wellbeing (Tamparo Lindh 2008, p. 69).à The therapeutic effect of good communication between healthcare professionals and patients on healthcare delivery cannot be ignored. Provision of social support to the patients reassures them and can even lower blood pressure. Patients regard the health professionals who communicate effectively at an emotional level as warm, caring and empathetic. This enables the patients to engender trust in them and encourages them to disclose worries and concerns that they would have otherwise not ha ve disclosed. In addition to this, useful and informative communication between the healthcare professionals and the patients encourages them to take more interest in their condition, ask pertinent questions and develop greater understanding and self-care (Jones Jenkins 2007, p.38). It is this interest and understanding of the importance of self-care that drives the patients to positively change their health behaviours. This happens especially when the patients are allowed to ask questions and are involved in treatment decisions. The patients also experience benefits when the health professionals provide a good environment, give accurate information, use therapeutic communication and encourage positive motivation (Nemeth 2008, p. 93). Therefore good communication in the relationship between healthcare professionals and patients is an important tool for therapeutic intervention as well as good care. Basic communication skills alone are not sufficient to create and sustain successful therapeutic relationship between the patients and the healthcare providers. Successful therapeutic relationships are made up of shared perceptions and feelings on the nature of the problem, objectives of treatment and psychological support. Interpersonal skills develop from the basic communication between the doctors, nurses and other carers with the patients. Appropriate communication should be centred on both the carers and the patients as both sides are important in building and sustaining interpersonal relationships. The ultimate goal of any communication between the medical personnel and the patients is always to improve the health of the patients and medical care. Good communication skills are required for developing a high quality, effective and safe healthcare delivery. The skills are important for gathering information, diagnosis, treatment and educating the patients (Nemeth 2008, p.55). Eff ective communication benefits both the doctors and the patients because they are part of the treatment process. Previous studies on communication between the patients and doctors and nurses demonstrate that many patients are discontented even when the doctors and nurses consider it sufficient or excellent (Pilnick et al 2010, p 47). This implies that doctors and nurses often tend to overestimate their communication abilities. Patient surveys consistently indicate that the want the communication between them and the healthcare personnel to be improved (Tamparo Lindh 2008, p.88). In the past most of the medical personnel considered disclosing bad news to patients as inhumane and detrimental to their medical condition.à However, medical practice has now evolved from paternalism to individualism and is now characterised by shared decision making and communication that is centred on the patients.à Effective communication between the doctors and the patients is very important in clinical function because it plays a central role in healthcare delivery. Perhaps the most significant importance of communication in influencing health behaviour of the patients stems from the fact that the nature of health care is changing from treatment of illnesses to management of chronic disease as more and more people are now living with survivable chronic illnesses (Van 2009, p.74). This implies that the healthcare professionals need to encourage the patients to take good care of their health. For instance the patients living with diabetes are required to manage their blood sugar levels. Quality of life is more important to healthcare as patients are now living longer with chronic illnesses like cancer and bipolar disorders. Therefore treatment choice is now more dependent on the individual patients and must suit their preferences, values and expectations. à Conclusion Communication is an important tool that healthcare personnel can use to pass useful information to the patients. Well educated patients and their families need to be informed to make important health decisions in order to attain the aims of managed healthcare. Healthcare professionals need to disseminate relevant and persuasive information to the patients to help them change their health behaviours. They can rely on the models of healthcare communication to communicate to the patients based on their individual characteristics. References Bryan, K. (2009).à Communication in healthcare. The relationship between creative written and verbal expression and Dissertation
The relationship between creative written and verbal expression and attitudes toward violence - Dissertation Example This quantitative study proposes to use a post-test only quasi-experimental design to address the research questions (Shaddish, Cook, and Campbell, 2002). Quasi-experimental design seems appropriate since the researcher finds it immpossible to randomly assign research participants, and also to conduct a pretest. As such, only a post-test will be distributed and non-random assignment of the participants is to be undertaken. Quasi-experimental designs are used to test whether educational practice makes a difference for individuals (Creswell, 2003). The treatment is defined in this proposed research project as a creative writing workshop, in which students are taught the elements of written and verbal expression. The treatment is considered to be complete once students construct a written creative expression and verbally share the written creative expression with the members of the treatment group. Neuman (2003) describes the concept of treatment as stimulus or manipulation, and in this case, the stimulus is the participation in the creative writing workshop. Post-treatment measures or the dependent variable that is considered in the research is the attitudes toward violence, and this will be collected and compared in order or determine whether there were significant differences in the attitudes changes of control and sample groups. . Research Design Research Instrumentat The Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth (SAVRY) will be used as post-test for treatment and control groups. The test authors developed the SAVRY to provide a standard rubric that could be used by a variety of systems that need to assess and manage youth violence. The instrument is composed of three domains of risk factors, containing 24 items. The Summary Risk Rating... The purpose of this quantitative study is to explore the relationship, if any exist, between creative written and verbal expression and attitudes toward violence. To accomplish this purpose, the researcher intends to employs the quasi-experimental research design. Chapter three explained the research method and the dependent and independent variables. Context of the study was explained, the African American Males residing in what is considered the of the United States. Instruments involved were also explained which included the defined measurement. The primary data collect in the present study includes the scores from post-tests of the treatment and control groups. Data analysis to occur was explained along with limitations, threats to internal validity, and assumptions of the study. Population and sample size were defined, along with the geological location of the proposed study. In the following chapter the nature of findings and prospective areas of discussions of the study will b e presented. In the writing of this research, certain assumptions are deemed as influencing the researcher in the course of study. These assumptions are: first, juvenile violence is a contemporary phenomenon brought about by factors present only in this period. Second, the study assumes that there is no single entity or individual solely responsible for solving the problem. Third, the problem of juvenile violence will affect not only the youth of today, but also will have an impact on the children of tomorrow.
